Privacy notice
Effective 14 September 2026. This covers accounts on bettip.co.za and anything bought on it. The Android app has its own notice. Reading the site without an account stores nothing about you beyond the ordinary server logs described below.
What we keep, and why
- Email address and a password hash, to run your account and send receipts, refund confirmations and notices about your plan. The password itself is never stored. Lawful basis: performing the contract you asked for (Protection of Personal Information Act, section 11(1)(b)).
- Plan and payment records: which plan, when, how much, Payfast's payment and subscription references, and the notification Payfast sends us for each payment. Never your card number, which Payfast holds under its own notice. Kept five years after the payment because tax law requires it, even if you delete the account.
- Saved numbers, alert settings, claims you create, until you delete them or the account.
- Referral links: which account's code a new account used, so the extra days can be granted once.
- One cookie, the login session, for 90 days. No advertising or analytics cookies are set by an account.
- Server logs: Cloudflare, which serves the site, records IP addresses and request details for a short time to run and protect the service.
Who processes it, and where
Cloudflare (site, database and functions; data may be processed outside South Africa on Cloudflare's network), Payfast (payments, South Africa), and, when email is switched on, Resend (transactional email, United States). Each is bound by its own agreement to process only on our instructions. Transfers outside South Africa rely on those agreements as section 72 of POPIA requires. Nobody else gets your details; we do not sell or rent them.
Marketing
We send only the emails the account needs: login, receipts, refund and plan notices, draw alerts you switched on. No marketing email without a separate opt-in, which we do not currently ask for. If we ever do, each message will carry a one-tap unsubscribe.
Your rights
See what we hold, correct it, or delete the account from your account page at any time; deletion removes the login, saved numbers and claims immediately and leaves only the payment records the law makes us keep. You can also write to the address on the terms page once published. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa), [email protected].
Children
The site and its accounts are for adults. If you believe a person under 18 has opened an account, tell us and it is closed.
Changes
A material change is announced on this page and by email to account holders before it applies.
